Gaussia maya is a fast growing palm tree from central Americas that needs a consistently warm climate and plenty of access to water.
They are very attractive ornamental palms that can take a fair amount of sun but also go very well in more shady parts of your garden.
They are fairly sparsely crowned made up of around 6-8 leaves that can be up to 2.5 metres long and the leaflets are arranged in multiple planes making for a somewhat plume-like appearance.
It can produce multiple inflorescences of flowers at any one time and the resulting fruits are red.
They can take a light frost but not for prolonged periods
Soil: Choose a well drained but humus rich soil that is in a sheltered location as they can be prone to succumbing to high winds.
Maintenance: Propagate from seed which will germinate easily if kept moist and warm.
